Development of Sanctication-First Step

      1.  What is the most important quality that we need to add FIRST to our faith?

2 Peter 1: 5 “…giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue-which is moral excellence (2 Peter 1:5a).  It doesn’t say, add, church involvement, or soul winning, or separation. To our precious faith add moral excellence. Does that sound a little odd?  In I Thessalians 4: 3-the Word of God says; “For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles, who don’t know God…For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 

Therefore, he who rejects this doesn’t reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit. (I Thessalonians 4:3-5, 7-8). In I Corinthians 6:18-20 the Word of God declares:  Flee sexual immorality, as every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immortality sins against his own body.  Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

1. Sex is sacred and marriage is a picture of the intimacy, oneness, and purity that the Lord wants in His relationship with a believer. “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.  This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
2. Sexual immorality is one of the gravest sin in the church.  It destroys relationships and families. Satan has used sexual immortality to destroy the ministry of pastors, who got involved in an illicit relationship.
3. Many men in the church have an insatiable appetite for pornography that destroys their relationship with both their wife and the Lord.
4. Too many women in the church love their soap operas and they often have romance thoughts about being involved in an affair.
5. Adding moral excellence to our precious faith will create much stability and strength in our character in addition to gaining God’s favor and many blessings from the Lord.
6. Sexual immorality is one of Satan’s favorite tool for enslaving those who are involved in it.
7. Sexual immorality will destroy a person’s character and conscience.  Therefore, ADD moral excellence to your precious faith
8. To illustrate character I would use cement that is wet and mix with gravel, when it is first laid down on the ground.  When it is settle it will become hard and sturdy.  Moral excellence is the beginning of a foundation that will soon become hard and sturdy.
