2nd step of Salvation

Realization of the Consequences of sin

“the wages of sin is death….” (Romans 6:23)

Wages refer to what we earned.  Our sins lead to a penalty of death….which is separation from God forever.  Spiritual death is being separated from communion with God.  St. Augustine one said:  (“Our soul is restless until we rest in you.” ) Physical death refers to the soul being separated from the body at death. Eternal death refers to eternal separation from God. To be in hell forever! This is the final outcome to those who reject God.

The biggest question today is:  Why would a loving God send people to hell to suffer forever?  The better question is; What would God do to those who reject Jesus Christ, who suffered so immensely as a substitute for our deserved consequences.  He suffered in order that we might not have to suffer!

In Mark 9:43-47, Jesus makes it clear that hell is a place where “the worm dies not and the fire is not quenched.”  He makes that point emphatically by restating it three times.

The worm refers to the flesh of man and the fire that isn’t quench means that it never goes out.  If you pour gasoline on a person and set them on fire and the fire never goes out and the body isn’t consume then you would have an idea of the horrors of hell.

In Revelation 14:10-11 the Bible says:  “….He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the lamb.  And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever, and they have no rest day or night….”

A holy God who hates sin and deeply loves His Son will have No Mercy on those who reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  The wrath of God will be poured out abundantly on those, who reject Him!
